Well done. Besides, the song will ony be exclusive to itunes for two weeks. After that, other places, like Rhapsody, for example, will be able to sell the new single as well. I don't think Al is missing the point at all.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Exactly my thoughts.
Al's not missing the point at all.

And I just 10 minutes ago got an iTunes account! Yay! Now I can download the new song-legally-the minute it's released!

Weird Al, of course, tends to write very topical and time-sensitive material, which makes his case a bit different
Yes, Al is world famous for his topical and time-sensitive material. *cough* Al is actually known for avoiding that in his work, except for trying to time his "single" parody. Al's single-song move is an attempt to become more topical.

Yes, his parodies may benefit by being based on popular songs of the time, but if you've never heard of these songs (most of which I haven't) you can still enjoy Al's version. And Al's version lives on, long after the original artist is gone. If you look over his catalog, it's the most topical songs that don't stand up as well. But satire and parody is one of the longest-lived creative works. That's why Al's back catalog continues to hum along. New fans find plenty to like when they finally discover him.

Promotion.

The article just asks a question, and gives their opinion. I don't see what the big deal is. In fact, I think it's a rather fair article to Al, and more damning to Kid Rock, who has been notorious for his and his label's (*cough* Atlantic Records) digital holdout and now looks like even more of a chump to his fans.

Is anyone else surprised that nothing about the single has been leaked yet? I thought for sure that we would have found something about it out by now.
