Hangin' 27: WAY surfing

Post by scottidog »

Thanks to LadyOmnis at #dementia...

Please don't reveal the secret ending to your friends.
Don't spoil the big surprise.
You won't believe your eyes when you see

Nature Trail to Hell,
Nature Trail to Hell,
Nature Trail to Hell,
In 3-D.

What a beautiful spoof that is. :D It had me honestly believing that there was a real movie called Nature Trail To Hell... until it occurred to me to run the name of the "cinematographer" through the Internet Anagram Server. And lo, presently there appeareth: Kevin Ray Wicodal = Weird Al Yankovic.

I might also mention that the review is dated 4/1/2001.

While I was trying to confirm or disprove the existence of these supposed B movies, I found this, which appears to be a mention of the WAY video. It's nice to see some serious appreciation taking place:

Y'know, at some point, SOMEBODY's going to have to do an Annotated Al, to document all the popular culture references in his stuff. It's already been done for the Grateful Dead, I believe.

BTW, in view of your "Hangin' 27" topic title, these lines seem apt:
Oh, it's Christmas at Ground Zero
And if the radiation level's okay
I'll go out with you and see the all new
Mutations on New Year's Day

Scotti, even for a WAY fan, 27 is just too many toes. But that's a very nice avatar you've got. :)

I knew it was there somehow, I just could quite get there from here.

Well, if we surf in tandem, it's only a few too many. You try to come up with a clever title :P

Thanks. My little scottidog is actually a black scot, but since they don't photograph so well, I had to go with a brindle. And the Hawaiian print is stolen, I mean, sampled from a pic of one of Al's actuAL shirts. No copyright infringement here. Can you copyright a shirt?

Al, remember what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And of all people you should have that memorized! LOL

Yep, that'll fool Grandma.

If she doesn't pass out first from seeing what it appears that guy in the front is doing to his broccoli!!

YIKES! :nervous:

Call me a traditionalist, but maybe it would just be better to send Grandma a picture where you are wearing clothes.

From the "Weird Al Dares Not To Be Stupid" department:

WAY surfing certainly takes you to some strange places... I found this in the guestbook of a marijuana advocacy website.
i remember one time weird al came to one of (somebody's) parties in (a Silicon Valley city). he wasn't very weird and he didn't even smoke the chronic!

I'll bet that was one fun party. :sarcasm: Al probably wished he'd just gone bowling instead.

I googled "Yankovich' and was glad to find out that google asked me if I meant "Yankovic."

Found this: Who would you rather get a back rub from? Mike Tyson or Weird Al Yankovich?

http://www.zerotv.com/mentalchallenge/i ... ntal_id=21

Well, you know who I voted for (no matter how it's spelled.) Mr. Yankovich got 82% of the vote. Probably the only physical contest that he could beat Tyson in. (Unless they have a leg behind the head contest.)

They said Tyson got 19% of the vote... For a mental challenge they aren't too bright, huh?

And this one... http://hgriggs.vafind.com/events.html#weirdal
He is short, small, very very limber and flexible
Now, granted, I have never met the man. But isn't he 6' tall? I wouldn't call that short. True, it's not exceptionally tall either, but it's not short.

Several Weird Al "Yankovich" parodies here http://www.clubsquaresoft.com/palmer/songs/

Last one, kind of funny (with apologies to the British among us) http://216.239.33.100/search?q=cache:Pv ... n&ie=UTF-8
being british is no excuse (though in most cases it is a pretty good one):

uhf is an amazing work of filmtacular delight and stunning artistic movieosity staring the talented and mustachioed weird al yankovich.

if you need weird al yankovich explained to you as well, you can just go ahead and **** right off.
The reply is pretty funny too (with apologies to the Americans among us)
And of course, Mr Yankovic is well known here - he is unusual, being an American with a sense of humour and all that...

It appears the Brits spell better ;)

Well, yeah! Always choose physical contact with a person who will leave you with your body parts intact.
Probably the only physical contest that he could beat Tyson in. (Unless they have a leg behind the head contest.)
I dunno about that. What about the Falling Off The Stage Without Crippling Yourself contest? (which we fervently hope Mr. Yankovic never again participates in) Or the Carpal Tunnel Invitational Autograph Marathon? And I think I'd definitely back Al over Tyson in a cross-country, uphill race to the HOLLYWOOD sign. That coastal sage scrub is dense, and the hills are HOT in summer, so the advantage goes to the thinner and lighter contestant. And besides, Al already knows the trail. From the "Ask Al" archive for 1995:
When you take a girl out on a date, where do you usually take her?

Fairly standard stuff - usually I'll take a date to dinner, sometimes a movie. If she's wearing the appropriate shoes I might take her for a midnight hike to the Hollywood sign.

Hmmm... maybe now we know the origin of "Don't Wear Those Shoes."

And thanks for introducing me to those splendiferous words "filmtacular" and "movieosity." I'm going to make EVERY effort to introduce them into as many conversations as possible.

You can watch quite a few WAY videos here

http://search.launch.yahoo.com/search/l ... p=yankovic

You have to log in with a yahoo ID, but if you have Window Media Player 9 it won't work. They're not great quality, but if you haven't had a chance to see them, it gives you an idea what you are missing. And the Spy Hard song is there!

I found a site that teaches you how to write XML (sorry, I don't know what that is, but I bet Webmaster Schwartz does):
We're going to build an XML document to describe one of the greatest CDs ever produced, Dare to be Stupid, by Weird Al Yankovic.
http://www.vbip.com/books/1861003412/ch ... 412_04.asp Useful and tasteful.

"Strange Al" Yankovic? http://segfault.org/stories/37ce9d0c-0179bfc0.html

That's all for now. G'night WAY fans.
