An open letter to WAY fans and aspiring parodists

Post by Bobio »

Hey gang,
This is my first post and I wanted to share a little something with all of you. First of all, I can't believe that I found this forum, I'm in creative weird heaven, surrounded by kindred folk. I've been a WAY fan since I was a wee tot, and he's been a bigtime inspiration to me. Secondly, I read this forum for a few hours prior to registering and wanted to compliment everyone on their civility, talent and overall pleasant demeanor, I like to think this board is a reflection of the one to whom the site is dedicated. Lastly, I'm a man of very little talent, unless one counts sleeping and doing nothing as skills (I do, but unfortunately I'm in the minority), but alas neither pay very well, so I punch the proverbial time clock and provide for the family, but my passion is writing parodies.

For years I would pen some verses only to engage in my greatest talent of all; procrastination. Despite encouragement from friends and strangers alike who had heard some of my songs, I just wasn't really motivated and engaged in some serious self sabotage. About 10 years ago, I finally wrote and recorded my first parody called Old People Retire in Boca, a take off of Livin la Vida Loca; it was almost unanimously liked, but I once again reverted to my old ways and did nothing about it for the following decade. Finally last year I had an epiphany, I didn't want to wake up when I was 80 and say, "what if?" Last August I called my music engineer from "Boca" outta the blue and told him I wanted to record again, since I had been writing for the last 10 years. Long story short (and I apologize for my take on War and Peace) over the last 6 months I've recorded 12 parodies, shot 2 videos and will shoot 4 more next month and release my first album within the next few months.

I want to encourage everyone to follow your dreams, there is some real talent here (Weirdabbott, I too use rhyme zone, and lol'd when you provided the link to it). All of my stuff is clean, as I'm a Christian and want to appeal to as wide of a market as possible and stick to my values as well. I love Weird Al and everyone who enjoys this rare yet odd niche genre known as parody. Thanks for taking some time out to read this and I will share my two videos with you; the first is a parody of hard out here for a pimp, the second, Hey There Delilah. I look forward to reading and listening to everyones stuff here, so far I am quite impressed. Bobio

Thank you! I listened to both of your parodies, very very good. I also have a parody called "Hey Aunt Jemimah" and I loved "Its Hard Out Here For a Wimp", very funny!

Thanks Abbott for the kind words; usually when I check how my videos are doing, I just type in Bobio, but one time I typed in Hey Aunt Jemima, expecting to see my video, and then I saw about a half dozen others, I was like, "DOH", apparently I'm not as creatively unique as I thought. lol I was In Los Angeles last week shooting four more videos, they should be edited and ready within a month.
