Wow, a sudden late surge from My Own Eyes in the final days and hours has tied it all up with Sports Song at the deadline, 16-16 out of 41 votes, 39% each!

This means we've got a runoff!!! :lame:

Which of these songs is WORSE:

or

My Own Eyes

and why?

It's not a foregone conclusion - they were tied 15-15 after a week of voting. I think a lot of people are contrarian voters, going against the conventional wisdom just to be different. We'll see!

Love both songs and think both songs are good! However, musically My Own Eyes is definitely better.

Paraphrasing my reasoning from the previous, non-runoff elimination round...

Is "My Own Eyes" better and/or more interesting from a musical and lyrical standpoint compared to "Sports Song"? Yes, of course.

But which one am I more likely to skip over? I'll give you a hint: it's not "Sports Song".

Maybe it's because SS is a new and unique genre for Al to tackle, whereas Al has done rock many times before, in various styles. Maybe it's because, for all their creativity, the lyrics of MOE still essentially boil down to a list song (not unlike "Syndicated, Inc.", which like MOE is musically great but relatively weak in the lyrics department).

In any case, I stand by my vote.

Don't worry: if SS somehow makes it to the next round and MOE loses this round, SS is next to go.

There's more going on than that. I'd say it's around a 50-50 split between just wacky imagery and actual jokes.

Pretty much agree with everything avesjohn said. The thing is that MOE has really become the only "skip song" for me upon my MF listens. I appreciate it musically, but it does little for me otherwise. SS, on the other hand, is short and sweet and unique and funny, so I usually let it play through.
