TV Land Top 40 Theme Songs

Post by Elvis »

Did anyone catch this show? I managed to tape it, but no one told me it was an hour long, so I missed the last half hour. I'm curious to know if I missed any Al.

Thanks,

Dave

Yes. Al spoke briefly about the themes from MASH and Gilligan's Island. Oddly enough he didn't have anything to say about the themes from the Flintstones or Beverly Hillbillies.

What did he say about MASH? It is my favorite show ever!

Just how the theme to the TV show ("Suicide Is Painless") was in fact originally performed with lyrics in the movie.

Dave, Al appeared on the TV Land show FOUR times during the hour.

He gave commentary on theme songs #22 M*A*S*H [reporting the actual

title of the tune was "Suicide Is Painless"]; #7 The Brady Bunch

[complimenting Sherwood Schwartz's composing skills]; and #1 (WOO-

HOO! Al got on #1!) Gilligan's Island [explaining how CBS wasn't sure

about doing a show about 7 folks on a deserted island].

PLUSSSSSSSSSS

He was the VERY FIRST PERSON who appeared on screen in the intro to

the show, saying "TV themes stick in your head forever."

BUT -- did anybody else think it odd that he'd comment on M*A*S*H and

NOT on #13 The Flintstones; #10 Beverly Hillbillies; #3 I Love Lucy;

or even #8 Friends [I'll Be There For You]. Three of his biggest TV

songs [plus one unreleased] ... ignored. Ah well, at least we got

some of that "Isle Thing" ... and the "Brady Buh-HUNCH!!!"
