Al as accordionist!

Post by Orthography Enthusiast »

What song or songs would you point someone to if you wanted to offer proof for the idea that Al really is an accordionist of skill and finesse?

Any of his polkas.

Syndicated Inc. has a lovely accordion solo and that may be the best thing it has going for it.

I think I would point to "Ode To A Superhero" because he takes a piano riff that is known the world over yet gives it a very unique makeover upon bringing it to accordion. Faithful, yet also distinctly Al.

I think most certainly that the accordion solo in "Everything You Know is Wrong" is the best example of how well Al can play the instrument.

I love it that no two people have the same suggestion. Anybody else?

I believe there was quite a bit of accordion work in "Ricky", if I'm not mistaken.

Like Austin said, Everything You Know Is Wrong would be the best, but, IMO, any of them would work.

I also agree with oddaustin now that I think about it. Doing a style parody of an accordion-centric band does have that upside. (Also the obvious suggestion of any polka.)

Everything You Know is Wrong is a great song for showing off Al's talent as a composer/arranger.

If you just want them to focus on the accordion, yeah, any polka. Or My Baby's in Love with Eddie Vedder.
