I think the term "mockumentary" suits The Compleat Al best.

I'm not sure if I'd call it a movie, really...

Really? How about one of my favorite things on VHS that's partly fact, partly fiction, that's silly and vastly entertaining? ;)

I believe he did, yes. That's why it's perfect! I believe The Rutles was also termed a mockumentary, but that was pure fiction.

I also like your other definition, Cinn. Cute!

God, I hate that. I don't often remember my dreams, but when I'm having a "good" one, it never fails that I'll be awoken by something...or nothing, for that matter. I always think if I just lay still and keep thinking about what I was dreaming about, I'll fall back into the dream. But, it never happens. I hate dreams.

What does "Compleat" mean? How is it pronounced?

Is it the same as "Complete"?

It was spelled that way as kind of a parody of of "The Compleat Beatles", which was a documentary. It means the same thing as "complete". It's a funny video that I highly recommend, as long as you can find it at a fairly reasonable price, which I'm afraid is hard to do.

I've seen it.

Is compleat a real word? Is it like an old English spelling?

I don't know, I just know The Beatles had a documentary that came out in 1984 in which they spelled that word that way. Do you own a copy of The Compleat Al, or did you watch it somewhere else?

ETA: from dictionary.com

com·pleat (km-plt)  Pronunciation Key
adj.
Of or characterized by a highly developed or wide-ranging skill or proficiency: “The compleat speechwriter... comes to anonymity from Harvard Law” (Israel Shenker).

Being an outstanding example of a kind; quintessential: “Here was the compleat modern misfit: the very air appeared to poison him; his every step looked treacherous and hard won” (Stephen Schiff).

[Variant of complete.]
