What If Al Only Did Food Parodies?

Post by Skippy »

First and foremost, the question is not what you would think of that, so please no "That would be boring" posts. Thanks.

Thanks to this new video of Jon Iverson discussing the early days of Al, we now have a little more background on why there were so many food-based parodies on Al's earlier albums. (Or maybe everybody else knew this, but I didn't realize that there was a conscious effort to make all of the songs about food, rather than it just being a coincidence that a lot of the ideas were about food.)

Anyway, with this in mind, let's have some fun. (Yes, it's mandatory.)

Imagine that Al never deviated from the food parody plan, but still parodied all of the same songs on his albums. What would the food parodies have been? For example, besides "I Love Rocky Road" and "My Bologna," the first album might have included the Toni Basil spoof "Twinkie," a parody of Tom Petty & Stevie Nicks set in a grocery store called "Stop Draggin' My Cart Around" and of course the Queen-mocking ode to pizza: "Another One Bites the Crust."

Only 13 more albums... GO!

Alapalooza would have Jurassic Pork, Throw it Away (And yes, that would make Livin' in the Fridge expendable, so Fillin' Up on Bread), and Artichokey Heart.
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

I would actually like to hear Artichokey Heart. And Al did work the Fillin' Up On Bread trope into First World Problems.

How about....

"Cola" ("Lola")
"King of Grain" ("King of Pain")
"My Baloney" ("Mony Mony") -- okay, so a bit redundant....
"The Smoothie Song" -- AKA "Don't Forget Cucumber" ("Don't Forget My Number")
"Pretty Fly For a Fry Guy" ("Pretty Fly for a White Guy")
"Rump" (as in roasts) ("Lump")
"(I Eat) Corn This Way" ("Born this Way")
