Re: The Elton John Style Parody Mystery
I'll give you two clues:
It's an older song, let's say pre-2011, so don't bother scouring Alpocalypse for the answer. The Elton target vibe song wasn't a single although it was probably a fan favorite (in other words, not an obscure Elton song.) I liked it, and obviously Al did, too.
It didn't turn out quite as intended, and I think the instructions just weren't clear up front. I recall hearing afterward that it wasn't really the desired Elton vibe, and thinking 'that would have been simple enough... if only we'd known!'
But the song did turn out nicely, and once you know the answer, you'll hear how it was heading in the Elton direction.
So, you need to name the Al song, and the Elton song to which it was supposed to be an homage.

I know I'm probably turning this thread into an Al-related 20 Questions, but here goes anyway...
Was either the Al song or the Elton song mentioned in the thread linked to in the first post of this topic?

Okay, I'll venture a guess. This is based on little other than knowing Al's affection for Goodbye Yellow Brick Road makes me think his song would have been based on a song off that album:
"That Boy Could Dance" = "Your Sister Can't Twist (But She Can Rock N Roll)"

Re: The Elton John Style Parody Mystery
I'm going to go with the albums "In 3-D" & "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". The songs "Nature Trail To Hell" & "Funeral For A Friend" sound identical in style to me. I know FFAF has become a favorite for Elton John concert setlists. It's not obscure but definitely not his most well known song. NTTH has vocals though, whereas FFAF has no vocals so the styles sound similar music wise to me. So those are my guesses.
Concerts Attended: 1
September 19th, 2011 - Pikes Peak Center, Colorado Springs, CO
Some people say I'm the one who got Al to be in an Epic Rap Battles of History.

Nature Trail and FFAF do have very similar intros. Gothic wind.
Elton plays FFAF at nearly every show.
