Parody Covers

Postby scottidog » Wed Oct 02, 2002 12:40 am

Another level of parody that I have just become aware of... The actual AL-bum covers. I guess I knew that there was something there, after all I did see the Bad/Even Worse comparison back in the day. But I was looking at the OTDE cover and happened to see the Nirvana original today.

It is uncanny how well the cover itself was done. Except for one tiny detail, which I wouldn't have noticed at all except that the sticker had come off and the store had helpfully placed a piece of masking tape over the offending area. Being the curious type, I just had to know why.

Ahem.

That little detail was left off the WAY version. Wonder why? (A hint for those as in the dark as I was... little Mr. Happy is missing. I can't quite explain it. It had always just been there. Sorry. Couldn't resist)

Ahem. Because on the parody version it wouldn't have been a tiny detail??
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Yeah, I had seen the original album cover before...Long after I got OTDE...

Yeah...

Still odd...When I bought Alapalooza, I thought it was actually a cd of a cassette my dad had a long time and be nice and buy it for him. :)

It was some chicken farm thing with a parody cover with a chicken like the Alapalooza cover, cept that's Al of course. :D

Glad I picked up Alapalooza instead!

Wonder how many times Al had to dive into that pool with his glasses on before they got a shot where his Speedos didn't show?

<If Scottidog was the photographer...>

I'm sorry, Mr. Yankovic. Do you mind getting into the pool just one more time? I don't know what it is, my camera keeps getting steamed up...

I can't imagine why everyone hates these long periods between albums. :sarcasm:

All right, all right. I will be decorous. I will divert my attention from Mr. Yankovic's swimwear and back to really important matters, such as his lyrics.

I eat uno, dos, tres, quatro burritos
Pretty soon I can't fit in my Speedos.

Um. No spanish spell checker? (And for the record, which one is correct?) If I nominate you for the job, you will share your aftershow passes with me, won't you?

Well. Since you all insist on raising the level of this conversation... :wow:

What other album covers were direct parodies? I know that Even Worse and OTDE are. RWS is not? What else?

I'm trying to figure out what you thought you were buying. I'm glad you got Alapalooza too.
