No, you really do not get my point.
My point is that the five year wait has nothing to do with the fact that Al released songs early. If your problem is with the five year wait, then complain about the five year wait. Don't say that Al shouldn't release songs online outside of the typical album context just because you're upset about the wait. These things are not one and the same.

Why are you so hostile to my opinion?

No, I feel that the Album five years Album model is not a good idea.
I don't like Al leaking half the album early, because I feel it ruins some of the fun.
Yes, I know Al can do whatever he wants, it's his music, but I personally (note, personally) don't like it because I personally like being surprised with a new album, new songs, new lyrics et al. When Al leaked the songs, we got to hear it as it was released. Don't argue that I "shouldn't have listened" because that's silly. Of course I'd listen. I like new Al material. However, I'd rather it be released all in one, as a surprise.

The Internet Leaks were OK. I didn't hate them, I don't wish Al any ill-will for doing it. I PERSONALLY just wish he would've surprised us.

It boils down to this:

I don't like the five year wait.
Leaked Tracks < A Complete Unleaked (You know what I mean) Album

If that is completely outrageous, shoot me.

Umm...okay! :gun:

Well, to be honest, it only has really one previously released song, and that would've been "Another One Rides the Bus." The rest were re-recording, new version, alt. versions, etc. New stuff.

"I Love Rocky Road", the album version, had been playing on the radio for a few months, maybe a year, before the debut album dropped. And just because a song is rerecorded doesn't change the fact that it is the same friggin' song.

And to be honest, debut albums are ALL like that.

Uhh, no.

What? That's like saying a demo, cover or a remix is the same as the original. If you're referring to the demo for "I Love Rocky Road," it is very different from than the album version. If you're referring to the studio version, well, obviously it would've been released on the radio before the album. Also, the single Yes, singles can precede albums, but what I'm saying is Alpocalypse collects various singles released in a five year span, a veritable compilation album of sorts. By the time ALP rolled around, half the songs were old news to us. Using the debut album is a poor example in this argument because it was the first ALbum, so there wasn't a gap of any sort before it.

Uhh, yes. Most artists perform live songs for several months to years and they build up a collection of their live "hits" and they record an album. Usually, artists don't just pop songs off out of nowhere, at first, they build a collection. That's what Al did. The Beatles did it. Heck, name me a debut album that is not like that.

I guess I'm just confused as to why you guys think my viewpoint is radically odd. I didn't like waiting for the album, but at the same time, I personally didn't like having it slowly leaked over the internet. I would've either preferred a 5 year gap with nothing so that ALP would've been AWESOME and fresh, or the Internet Leaks followed, relatively immediately by the album (Preferably the latter). I have no control on this, and I know that. I'm just saying WHAT I would've liked. Is that honestly too much? I hope Al doesn't do it next time, because I didn't like it.

I agree with most points on both sides of the coin, Jon's and Moby's! The leaks weren't really released over 5 years were they? Straight Outta Lynwood came out in '06 and the tour didn't start till '07 and didn't end till what, '08? I thought they started leaking sometime in '09, thats only like 2 years of leaks. The gaps between albums tend to get bigger with all classic rock bands since they are all aging and spending more time at home with families relaxing, especially Al who waited longer than most to get married and have a child. Don't be surprised if it takes longer for the next one to come out, 'cause it probably will. For the sake of staying on topic I agree with Moby that he should have just made us wait the extra year and half till Perform This Way was released and then the album would have had more surprises but either way it is an album and not really a compilation at all, and like Jon said it will stand up just like the other 12 albums did even though he released a special leaks EP a couple years earlier for the people that coudn't or didn't wanna just wait.
What a racket they're makin', Jack, they keep me up at night playin' their electic guitars!!

I'm not talking about the demo, and you obviously haven't seen Al's Driven special.

OK, this is a good compromise on our points. I agree with most of this. :)

Well, I wasn't talking about the demo entirely. I realize is was played on the radio before the album came out, but like I pointed out, debuts tend to operate like that.

Actually all he has to do is sing "Friday, Friday, Friday" instead of "Baby, Baby, Baby" during the Justin Bieber part of the polka live in concert.
