I know that this song appears in the set-list but I heard this song was originally in an AL-TV interview (I think it was with Michael Stripe, but I could be wrong) how was it in the interview exactly? Did Al sing a line and then Michael (or whoever) sing a line, or something else?

Al suggested that he and Michael Stipe cowrite a song, and told Michael Stipe to give him a line to sing. So, Michael said "We all have cell phones, so come on, let's get real."

You can watch it here.

Supposedly it was in the Snoop Dogg interview too. I haven't seen that one though.

Oh, and here's a funny quote from Ask Al, December 1999:
Admiral Bob of Dallas/Texas asks: Will "Cell Phone" be on your next album? :)

I'm afraid not - I told Stipe he could have the exclusive on it.
Wishing you a Twisted Christmas and a Twisted New Year!

Wow, I hadn't seen that interview in a while. That's definitely one of Al's better ones. I loved it when he was imitating whatever Michael Stipe was doing.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

Hey...should we start a campaign on that? That'd be AWESOME, and I could set up a small website on Freewebs or something...

D-P-ing, but...

He actually, DOES use this in the setlist...kinda. He comes out for the "encore" after Fat, says something like, "You guys wanna hear one more little song?" Cheers. "Well, OK. ONE MORE LITTLE SONG..." He starts into a "We All Have Cell Phones" ballad with people waving their cell phones like candles....then goes into Albuquerque.

In the Snoop Dogg interview, I think he asked Snoop Dogg if he'd heard of his ewest song, and sang "Cell Phones".
