Vikki was kind enough to just forward me an email she got from the Largo @ Coronet mailing list - Al will be the special guest at this live event in Los Angeles on February 7! (I know that page has no mention of Al, but trust me - the email said Al is the special guest! That link is where you can buy tickets!)

I am familiar with this movie courtesy of Rifftrax. It really is bad. In a fun way.

I may go to this. I love going to shows at the Largo, the subject matter is right up my alley, and it's hard to turn down a chance to see Al in person (again).

On the most recent "mini-episode" of the How Did This Get Made podcast, Paul Scheer confirms that, yes, audio of tonight's live event WILL be recorded and released as a future episode of the podcast. So, good news to all those unable to see it live!

I just watched Birdemic to prepare for this, and...holy smurf, is it bad. Not even bad in a good way, just stunningly bad in a terrible way. A couple of unintentionally funny moments here and there, but mostly just horrifically dull and painfully, half-assedly incompetent. How it ever got a cult audience is beyond me.

Same reason as The Room and Manos: The Hands Of Fate.

I enjoyed watching Birdemic more than nearly any film.

Birdemic makes The Room look like Citizen Kane. And Manos ONLY has a cult following thanks to MST3K.

That makes me very, very sad.

The podcast is a lot more fun than the movie (the lead actress dishing on how the movie was actually made was priceless), but I'm afraid the live audience got the best of the experience as far as Al was concerned. Sorry, listeners-only. Al seemed to be visiting from a slightly different world, the one where people take turns, and defer to each other sometimes, and generally are courteous to their peers. As a result, he didn't get the chance to say nearly as much as he might have done. OTOH, he's always very funny on a non-verbal, physical-comedy level, and tonight was no exception. Unfortunately, you can't listen to Al making funny faces.

And you're trying to tell me that Birdemic's cult following isn't entirely because of Rifftrax (And to a lesser extent, Phelous and Obscurus Lupa)?

C'mon.

For that matter Birdemic was also parodied by Tim & Eric, as was The Room. All of them are "only" popular because of their unique ironic cult followings.
