Meet & Greets

Post by Just4MyBF »

Hello!

I have been trying to do some research online about Weird Al meet & greets but have had no such luck X*

Therefore, I decided to just join the board and ask you nice people!

I just purchased tickets to see Weird Al at our local state fair in MN for my boyfriend's birthday present (he is a big fan). There was no VIP option, but I was wondering if Weird Al usually does a meet & greet or autograph signing before or after his shows? If so, is there a legitimate way to get in? (As opposed to just waiting by his tour bus)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Even if there was a VIP ticket option, it wouldn't include a meet & greet.

As far as I know, meet & greets (with passes or without) are done after the concert, not before.

Meet & Greet passes cannot be purchased. You usually have to have a close connection to the band, or win them in a contest.
Try calling and/or emailing the venue and the local radio stations to see if they will be having any meet & greet pass giveaways.

If you don't win any passes, you can try waiting by the tourbus after the show. Be prepared to wait for a while. Although he does try to meet with fans by the tourbus as much as he can, there is no guarantee that Al will be able to do a public meet & greet on any given day. There are many factors involved, such as how far it is to the next city on the tour, the physical setup of the venue (where the buses are parked), how big the line is, and how tired Al is that day.

If you go to the concert with high expectations of meeting Al and it doesn't work out, you will probably be very disappointed.
Instead, go to the concert just for the enjoyment of being at the concert. If you happen to get lucky enough to meet him, it will be a great bonus.

I think we once worked it out at approximately one in four concerts for meet n greets. Frankly, your best bets are smaller venues (i.e., theaters rather than fairs). The smaller the crowd, the more feasible it is for Al to be able to appear after the show.

Yeah, unfortunately, for State Fairs it is incredibly difficult. So, I would definitely say no to an after show meet-n'-greet.

Your best bet would probably be to go down to the area, scope where the bus will be driving in and parking, and seeing how close you can get in to that area before the show. I was able to meet before the Red River Valley Fair in Fargo, ND by doing that.

I was thinking about that whole discussion the other day, as I can probably add more stats to it, but I cannot seem to find it. Those were the conclusions we reached, but more data might be fun, too.

How can this info not be in the official WOWAY touring meet & greet FAQ by now?

We ought to get Nate Silver on this.

Theatres are best for Al. Casinos, are not good. The bus is usually more protected or the band is staying in the hotel. I think there is only 4 shows he has done so far with no meet and greet this tour, though I could be mistaken. He only has a 5 hour ride to his next venue, so I would say its a good possibility, as long as the bus is accessible, hang out. Security may say Al isnt coming out, but that isnt always true, they just want people out of there. If they really mean business about you leaving, you will know it. So just sit around, talk with other fans. You could make new connections that last for years
