6/24/10 Westbury, NY The Theatre at Westbury

Post by Alinite27 »

Going to try to attend this show. The only thing stopping is transportation in/around New York City, since Westbury is so close. Can anyone that's been here before provide any tips of best transportation, or how bad the traffic is in this area.

Anway, really want to try and make it to this venue, this tour. Always thought it would be very unique to see a show in this complete circle venue, with the turning stage.

I 'd never miss a chance to see Al and TBITB lose their sense of where they are as the stage spins round and round.

When I went in 2007, I took the Long Island Railroad to Westbury and took a taxi from the station to the venue (about $5 for the taxi).

You won't have to worry about NYC traffic when traveling to Westbury. Westbury is out on Long Island, you really don't come anywhere close to the busy sections of NYC.

I will most likely be going to this show which will mark my 6th time seeing him at this venue. Saw him there in 2000,2003,2004,2007 and 2008. Also got to meet him after the 2007 show there, its a great venue for meet and greets after the show.

I like the usual opportunity to meet n greet Al after Westbury shows, but I hate the rotating stage. You really only see 1/6 of the concert as it should be seen.

I haven't been to this particular venue, but I have been to 2 other round theatres with rotating stages here in New England. I saw Al at one of them in 2007.

Yes, it is true that you don't get a direct face-to-face view of Al for a large part of the concert. Sometimes that is a bummer because you miss certain gestures and facial expressions that Al makes. It can make taking photographs of your favorite song difficult, because you don't know which way Al will be facing during each particular song.

Looking on the bright side: There are more opportunities for a "front row" seat. All of the seats are much closer to the stage than they are at a traditional venue. Every seat in the theatre is usually a good seat. Also, you get a chance to see the other band members (especially Bermuda) that you usually don't get to see very well on a regular stage.

So, they're calling themselves The Theatre at Westbury, this year? Much better than being named after some bank that's gonna go out of business in a couple of months anyway.

Westbury concerts are usually among my favorites. Though I can see why Westbury might not be the ideal choice for some people, like first timers, or people who travel long distances to see only one concert. I've only seen Al at one other theater in the round, and Westbury kicks that theater's ass by far. It's tiny enough that every seat is close to the stage. No bad seat in the place. The band always puts on a good show here, and the audience is very energetic. :Y

So there. So there. And not working the next day, so we can leave after the bus. Again.

Not to mention counting how many times the bus goes round and round the venue before gaining enough momentum to pull out of the parking lot. ;)
