Alright, Al has a unique and extensive catalog of style parodies, now its our turn to talk about what styles we have always wanted to hear from Al..
I'll start with saying I've always wanted to hear him do a style parody of Mindless Self Indulgence.

Re: Style Parodies
I gotta say I hate the term "style parody". It is an original, which is influenced by a particular band or song, nearly any mainstream music is like that these days. They are still considered originals right? Most of them only have small parts that sound similar to other songs.
What a racket they're makin', Jack, they keep me up at night playin' their electric guitars!!

Re: Style Parodies
My own personal wishlist:
Radiohead
The Flaming Lips
The Beatles (career-spanning, a la Genius In France)
Pink Floyd
Bruce Springsteen (Born To Run or Nebraska era)
The Pixies
Green Day (style parody of their last two albums' epic-punk-opera style)
Tom Lehrer (though already a comedy act, he still has a unique sound)
and any of the more distinctive, popular rap acts like a style parody of Jay-Z, Kanye West, Eminem, etc.

Re: Style Parodies
Isnt one of the unreleased songs a Tom Lehrer style? I wanna say its one we never heard though and its just a rumor. And Beatles very much so. Its been thrown about soooo much in this forum in the last few years, if he has been here at all he has to know that we want this!

I've always considered Nobody Here But Us Frogs to be a Tom Lehrer style parody.

Re: Style Parodies
The real term that should be used is "pastiche" (refers to a piece of work that is deliberately imitating another work). Yes, they're original compositions, but clearly Al is intending the songs to sound like certain artists. I think Al uses the term "style parody" because it's easier for people to say, and he's known for doing parodies.Yankomaniac wrote:I gotta say I hate the term "style parody". My style parody wishlist:
The Beatles (career spanning)
Pink Floyd
The Flaming Lips
Radiohead
Muse
Ween (lol can he even style parody a band that bases their entire career on style parodies?)
Syd Barrett
Leonard Cohen
