Songs Al Didn't Sing!!!

Postby Obbsesed » Thu Oct 10, 2002 1:08 am

Okay, my friend and I are having a -um- *cough* disscucion. He finds songs on KaZaA that are said to be by Al. Two of them have been "Zelda" and "Barney's on Fire". I don't know about Zelda, but the other one doesn't even like Al!!! (I'm gunna feel stupid if it IS him!) Well, anywayz, can anyone prove for me (and my friend as well!) that these are (or aren't) by Al?! Thanks.

psssst!!!...Go to Bermuda's site. Click on Links, and then click on the "not Al" page" It's a terrific reference for stuff like this (I have to say that, I helped him with it lol)
By the Way, Neither song that you mentioned is by Al. Although he has been known to bite of Barney's head with a dinosaur, he's never lit him on fire.

Or go to the weirdal.com links page and go to "Prince of Parodies". That site has every song by Al and another "Not Al" page.

I had a similar experience a few weeks ago with a friend of mine. She knew I was a big Al fan, so one night she's telling me about how much she just loves Weird Al and how she's getting a kick out of all these songs of his that she's downloaded. At the moment, I didn't have the time or energy to go into the whole "You're denying Al of his due money..." spiel, so instead I handed her a copy of the public service pamphlet "So You've Decided to Steal Comedic Music."

Okay, that part didn't happen. Anyway, I knew where this conversation was heading. The words "That's not Al" were already forming on my lips.

I casually told her that a lot of "Weird Al songs" on the 'net are not really by him, so she ran down the entire list of songs on her computer.

Sigh....poor, stupid girl.

About half of the songs she rattled off the titles of were authentic, honest-to-god Al songs (that is, when she read off an actual title and not just the first line in a chorus...oh well), but the rest.....let's just say I felt like I was listening to someone read the "Not Al" site.

I informed her as gently as I could that many of her favorite songs were not by Al. Well, being the super hacking genius that she believes herself to be, she couldn't possibly fathom the notion of receiving bad information online (gasp!), so she flat out called me a liar.

At this point I simply said, "Think about who is telling you this."

That seemed to be enough to convince her.

I was surfing the other day and saw some not-by-Al songs. I didn't even have to hear them to know.

I'm proud of me for that! (Al would never write a song called My Big Balls. He is WAY too much of a class act for that. Smut humor is only for those not smart enough to come up with something that is actually funny. Our boy is smart enough to be funny without being vulgar. Not that he's above 'juvenile' humor -Gotta Boogie- but hey, I like that song, so you know what that says about me. eheheheh. )

At this point I simply said, "Think about who is telling you this."

Yeah. But what do you know about Al's songs. Not like you wrote a Songography or anything.

I had this happen to me yesterday. One of my friends grabbed my folder (which has Al on it) and showed it to someone. I asked him what that was about and he said nothing. I asked again, he said something about a Windows Sucks song.

:|

Already the words were out of my mouth. "That's not by Al."

Even though, now I know the person he was showing it to was the one who thought it was by Al. Though, insisting the sites he saw said it was by Al and seeing it on the offical site. Oy vey.

I went into my thing about it's the first question in the FAQ, stating it's not by Al. Well, let's just say this continued into today with me going, "You should not trust those inaccurate websites! If you have any questions, ask me! I mean, look who are you talking to!"

My other friend even went, "See. I told you. You should have asked her."

Then the guy started quizzing me on Al knowledge. He was amazed that I knew all the answers...

I'm gonna have to educate this poor soul!

A wayward Web search (don't remember what I was looking for) sent me to a German bulletin board; it put an awful strain on the tattered fragments of my junior-college German, but I did manage to post "'Which Backstreet Boy is Gay' is not by Weird Al. Please see (address of Not-Al Page)."

On the topic of AL-education for the masses... I was surfing the other day and found the webpage of the guy who played Bill Gates in the Pentiums video. His publicist listed his credits as having played Bill Gates in the Weird Al Yankovich video blah blah blah...

I fired of an email correcting the spelling. I haven't been back to see if anyone cared enough to fix it. Ugh.

Sigh. I discovered that Rick Derringer's website had "Wierd Al Yancovic." C'mon, Mr. Derringer, just copy the correct spelling off those gold records on your wall.

The actual e-mail I sent was much politer. I've got to do something to justify calling myself an Orthography Enthusiast, after all.

Is it any wonder Al felt capable enough to take over the production duties? Maybe that's why it's mispelled. Either that, or some low level, semi literate flunkie did the web page.

As an aside... I found out that you can access the official site by going to http://www.wierdal.com Bermuda even took into account those of us who can't spell (or in my case... TYPING is the problem. I can spell, I just can't type!)
